Aluminum was used in residential homes mainly because it was cheaper and more readily available than copper during the 1960's and 1970's. The problem with aluminum is:

• Expands and contracts more with temperature changes.
• Can oxidize, increasing electrical resistance.
• Can loosen at connections over time.
• Can create hot connections and fire hazards if improperly terminated.

Best long-term solution: remove all the aluminum and install appropriate size copper wiring.

If full rewiring isn't practical: We can run new dedicated copper wiring and remove or abandon partial aluminum wire.
